SCAC's 2020 Awards Program & Competition Details

The Association is currently accepting applications for the 2020 J. Mitchell Graham/Barrett Lawrimore Memorial Awards Competition and the new COVID-19 Response and Resiliency Showcase.
The J. Mitchell Graham Memorial Award recognizes counties that address community challenges, implement operational improvements, or enhance their citizens’ quality of life in a unique way. The Barrett Lawrimore Memorial Regional Cooperation Award highlights the growing need for regional partnerships, strategies, and solutions. Competition for this award is open to two or more political subdivisions that worked together on a project. The COVID-19 Response and Resiliency Showcase has been added this year to honor the ways counties are responding to the unprecedented health pandemic. All entries submitted for this year's showcase will receive special recognition. Counties interested in submitting an entry for their efforts in addressing COVID-19 are asked to submit their projects for the showcase, not for the other two award categories.
All applications must be submitted online or received at the SCAC Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26. Please note - judges will review only the written applications prior to the competition. If your county would like to submit a video as part of your entry, please mention or discuss the video in the written submission. Presenters will need to incorporate any videos into the presentations for the competition; judges will not view videos prior to the competition.
This year’s competition will not be held in conjunction with SCAC’s Annual Conference in Hilton Head. Instead, the awards competition will be held at SC ETV in Columbia on August 26, 2020. Applicants who meet the submission deadline and all requirements will be scheduled to present their projects in-person on August 26. Applicants will be able to share Power Point presentations and any videos at that time. More specific information regarding presentations will be shared with the presenters. The competition will be livestreamed for all county officials to view. The awards announcements and showcase recognition will be livestreamed in late September. More details will be forthcoming.
For more information, please see the 2020 Awards Brochure and the Awards Toolkit. The toolkit allows counties to submit their applications online, provides a fillable PDF application, addresses frequently asked questions, and includes examples of previous projects.
