FEMA Policy - Funeral Cost Assistance for COVID-19-related Deaths
FEMA has released the policy regarding funeral assistance for COVID-19 deaths. The agency will set up a toll-free number to take registrations, which according to FEMA’s communication, will open in April.
- Assistance is intended to help with expenses for funeral services and interment or cremation for a COVID-19 death.
- COVID-19-related death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.
- Assistance maximum will be $9,000 per funeral and maximum of $35,500 per application (for multiple deaths in a household).
Documentation required will be an official death certificate, receipts documenting funeral expenses, and documentation indicating if any expenses were covered by other types of assistance.
