The House returned from furlough and worked in committee and subcommittee meetings throughout the week to advance legislation to their calendar. On the floor, the House voted to override Gov. Henry McMaster’s veto of the “Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)” bill and debated several other bills, including the tort reform bill.
The General Assembly started March with a burst of action in both chambers and in subcommittees. The Senate debated and passed the boat tax reduction bill (see below in State House Sound Bites). Meanwhile, the Senate Finance property tax subcommittee advanced a couple of SCAC policy positions, and the Senate Agriculture and Senate Judiciary subcommittees continued hearing testimony and debating how to effectively regulate data centers.
The Senate Finance Committee met for the first time in 2024 and took up several bills of interest to counties. When not in committee meetings, members of the Senate spent time on the floor debating H.
