Sen. Scott Presented 2024 President's Cup
SCAC Immediate Past President Roy Costner this week presented the 2024 David K. Summers, Jr. President’s Cup to U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of Charleston County at an event on Daniel Island.
“I have long looked up to Sen. Scott, not only for his leadership on county council but also for his innovative efforts in economic development that have benefited communities throughout South Carolina and our nation,” Costner said.
Each year, the Association’s president honors an individual who has merited special recognition for service to county government.
Sen. Scott began his public service career on Charleston County Council in 1995, serving for 13 years.
“I am optimistic about public service,” Scott told the group at the Daniel Island Retirement Community, recounting his beginnings in the Lowcountry. He praised South Carolinians for continuing to believe in each other.
“Solutions come from home,” he said.
In a news release his office issued Sept. 18, Scott said, “I’m deeply honored to receive this award, While I’ll never forget the impact I was able to have during my time on county council, I’m committed to tackling the issues that shape our local communities and ensuring a brighter future for all.”
Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb, members of Berkeley County (SC) Government Council, Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell, and state Rep. Mark Smith of Daniel Island were at the event.
