Friday Report - April 3, 2026

The House spent most of their week on the floor debating and passing an insurance reduction bill, as well as several law enforcement bills, including the “Roadway Protection and Safety Act,” an immigration compliance bill and a bill to protect police animals. The House will be on furlough next week.

Meanwhile, the Senate passed county auditors and treasurers qualifications bills, gave second reading to a municipal capital project sales tax bill, and after a lengthy debate gave second reading to a monument protection bill.  The Senate also voted to override Gov. Henry McMaster’s veto of the “Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)” bill and continued subcommittee hearings on two data center bills (S. 867 and S. 902). While the Senate will meet in perfunctory session next week, the Finance Committee will begin debate on the budget bill Tuesday.

These and other bills of interest are detailed in this week's Friday Report
