Horry County Solid Waste Authority an Award Winner Two Times Over

Horry County Solid Waste Authority (HCSWA) received two awards from the SC Counties Insurance Trusts.  SCAC Insurance Service Director Robert Benfield presented the awards during a recent board meeting.

HCSWA won the Outstanding Safety Achievement Award for its program to identify gas wells. Multiple gas wells were being damaged on a weekly basis by off-road trucks, compactors and large grass-cutting equipment. To ward off future damage, the team installed flashing lights and placed reflective barrels at each gas well location to increase their visibility for vehicle operators during daytime and nighttime work. No gas wells have been damaged since the installation.

HCSWA also received the Sustained Excellence in Risk Management award for continuing to exceed the Basic Risk Management Standards and excelling in their risk management and safety program.

Each year the SC Counties Insurance Trusts recognize counties who have made significant achievements in their risk management and safety programs. Awards are announced at the annual Insurance Trusts meeting in the winter, and SC Association of Counties representatives travel to present the awards to county councils statewide throughout the spring.
