Position Summary:

Under administrative direction from the Director of Planning and Code Compliance, this position will manage the delivery of planning and development services. A primary function of this position is to evaluate, facilitate and monitor current planning activities including rezoning and development proposals. This includes working closely with division managers and outside agencies on the review and formulation of recommendations for planning and development proposals. This position will also serve as the division lead for customer service and process evaluation and improvement.

Essential Functions (include but not limited to):

  • Assume full management responsibility for all Development Services section activities, including current planning and zoning map amendments.
  • Establish, within County policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; monitor and evaluate work methods and procedures; allocate resources accordingly.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the Development Services section work plan; assign projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; review work methods and procedures, analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and meet with management staff to resolve issues.

Job Specifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public planning, administration, and consultation or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the daily job functions. Experience providing customer service to developers and citizens is critical to success in this position.

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in city, urban and regional planning, architecture, urban design, or closely related field.

  • A Master’s degree in Planning or Public Administration is highly desirable and may be substituted for one year of experience.

Under supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor, mows and trims grass, participates in the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals, assists with landscaping projects, and performs other tasks to assists in maintaining the County grounds. Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. One year experience of grounds maintenance including the operation of grounds equipment similar to that used in the maintenance department. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Certified by the State as a Pesticide Applicator.
