1) What is the best browser
to use to view the SCAC homepage?
When viewing the South Carolina Association of Counties
homepage, it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer version 3.02 or higher. You may
also use Netscape Navigator version 2.0 or higher to view the SCAC homepage. Older
browsers than the ones recommended do not support Frames, or certain font properties.
2) Why does the scrollbar
on the front page not work properly?
If the scrollbar on the front page does not work
properly, you may have an older version of Internet Explorer of Netscape Navigator, and
probably should upgrade.
Internet Explorer
If you don't see a scrollbar, and you are using Internet
Explorer 3.02 or higher, go to the VIEW menu and click on OPTIONS. Now go to Security and
verify that "Enable Java programs" is checked. If this did not fix the problem,
check at Microsoft's site for more information.
Netscape Navigator
If you don't see a scrollbar, and you are using Netscape
Navigator 2.0 or higher, go to the OPTIONS menu and click on NETWORK PREFERENCES. Now go
to Languages and verify that "Enable Java" is checked. If this did not fix the
problem, check at Netscape's site for more
information.
3) All the images on the
page look fuzzy. What's with that?
Chances are that your computer's color depth is at 256
colors or less. This site was customized for High Color (16 bit) systems. If your system
is at 256 colors, and you wish to increase your color depth, you should be aware that some
older video cards do not support anything higher than 256 colors. Some older video drivers
may also have a similar problem. If you are unsure, consult your computer's manual or
contact your computer vendor.
Windows 95
Minimize all windows, and click on the desktop with your
RIGHT mouse button. You should see a menu come up. Click on Properties. Now click on the
tab labeled "Settings". You can change your settings here. If you can't move the
color depth any higher (the option on the left side), then your card cannot support that
color depth at your current resolution. Check with your computer vendor or video card
manufacturer for more information.
Windows 3.x
First, exit windows and get to a DOS prompt. Then type
"cd\windows". You should now be in the Windows directory. Now type
"setup.exe". You will then see a list of video cards. Make sure that you know
which type of video card you have. If you are unsure, consult your computer documentation.
You now can change the color depth on your computer. If you are unsure or experience
problems, check with the computer vendor or with Microsoft.
Macintosh
Double click the hard drive, double click on the System
Folder, double click on the Control Panel, then double click on Monitors. You will see a
list of available color depths. Click on the bottom most bitdepth. To change your
resolution, click the Options button, then click on at least 832x624 or 800x600 if these
resolutions are there, then click on OK.
4) Why is the text so
small?
Some text on the South Carolina Association of Counties
is small to begin with. You may have to move the FONT size on your browser up temporarily.
If the text is extremely small, make sure you don't have the setting on the lowest or
second lowest font size. In Netscape under OPTIONS and General Preferences, make sure the
font is set around 12 pt. In Explorer, simply go to VIEW and click on FONTS and click on
"Medium".
5) Where can I get the
latest browser?
The latest browsers can be downloaded at the following:
Netscape Browser 8.0
Internet Explorer
6 Service Pack 1
Remote Desktop Connection Client 1.0.3 for Mac
