Richland County Government located in
the beautiful midlands of South Carolina ,
one of the largest counties in South Carolina and home of the state
capital, seeks the following:
Planning Director
Job Duties
Under limited supervision, is responsible
for the development of comprehensive plans and programs for utilization
of land and physical facilities of Richland County, as defined by the
Code of Ordinances, to ensure orderly development and utilization of
land. Directs and supervises the Current Planning Administrator, Permits
Administrator, Chief Building Inspector, and Zoning Administrator to
ensure proper coordination of activities and effective implementation
and enforcement of established codes and ordinances to foster orderly
growth, public safety, and quality of life for citizens of the county.
This responsibility also encompasses budget development; personnel
management (to include position justification, hiring, and evaluation);
and equipment acquisition, utilization, and management.
This position is under the general guidance of the
County Administrator. This position regularly interacts with a variety
of multi-jurisdictional bodies, state regulatory agencies, County
Council, the Planning Commission, other county department heads, and the
general public. This position may be assigned special projects and other
responsibilities as required.
Requirements
This position requires a Master’s degree in
planning or a closely related field, as well as five to seven years of
experience as a Planning Director. American Institute of Certified
Planners (AICP) certification is preferred. The incumbent is required to
utilize a variety of software applications including Windows 95,
Microsoft Word, ArcView, and PowerPoint. The incumbent must also have a
valid SC Driver’s license.
