Assistant to the County Administrator

Job Duties

The Assistant to the County Administrator (CA) is responsible for assisting the CA in the coordination and management of County projects and Council directives. This position oversees and facilitates the research, analysis, and implementation of council actions–as well as projects pertaining to policy issues–as assigned by the CA. Assures thorough critical analysis from the Research Analyst(s) and department Directors to allow for informed decision making by the CA and County Council. Attends County Council and committee meetings to track the evolution of agenda items and to coordinate follow-up efforts for those items. Acts on behalf of the CA during the absence of the CA. Performs research and project management for projects assigned by the CA.  This position supervises the work of and delegates appropriate projects to the Research Analyst(s). Works under the limited supervision of the CA. The incumbent interacts on a daily basis with a variety of individuals and groups in the performance of duties, such as the CA; County Council; Department Directors; representatives of local, state, and federal government organizations; civic groups; and the general public. Prepares reports and presentations for the CA and Council as to the status and resolution of significant projects.

Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business administration, or a related field with five years of experience in the areas of public sector management and administration. A Master's degree in public administration or another applicable area is also required. The incumbent must have a valid SC Driver’s license.
