The Laurens County
(SC) Development Corporation is seeking a qualified candidate for
the position of
Executive Director. Under the general supervision of the Executive
Committee of the Laurens County
Development Corporation, the Executive Director is responsible for
all aspects of the economic development
program for the county. These responsibilities include assisting in
the growth and development of the
existing industries throughout Laurens County and supervising
economic development research,
analysis, and planning.
The Executive Director must
develop and maintain professional contacts with state, regional, and
neighboring
county economic development agencies. The Director must develop and
possess a thorough knowledge of
local and state incentive programs for the advancement of economic
development in Laurens County.
The Director must have the ability to recruit industrial and
commercial employers, negotiate with industrial
and business representatives to encourage location and/or expansion
within Laurens County, and evaluate
the appropriate level of project incentivization through extensive
analysis. The position requires a keen
understanding of the confidentiality of economic development
projects.
The Executive Director must have sufficient
management skills to administer the office and staff of the
Laurens County Development Corporation. The position requires a
general knowledge of personnel
management, procurement, and fiscal management, including budget
preparation and forecasting.
The Executive Director will serve as the primary point of contact
for the dissemination of information related
to economic development in Laurens County. The Director must have
the ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with industrial and business
representatives, the media, public officials,
and the general public. The position requires excellent oral and
written communicative skills.
The position requires a minimum of a
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, economics,
marketing, or a closely related field and five (5) years of
managerial experience in economic development
and industrial recruitment. A Master's degree in one of these fields
is a plus. The position also requires a valid
SC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one before employment.
The successful candidate must also be
willing to move to Laurens County within six (6) months of
employment.
